Dragon Quest: Torneco's Great Adventure 2
Dragon Quest: Torneco's Great Adventure 2-November 2024
Nov 15, 2024 7:30 AM

TOKYO - Chun Soft has released official information and screenshots for its upcoming game, Dragon Quest Characters Toruneko No Daiboken 2: Fushigi No Dungeon (translated in English to Dragon Quest Characters: Torneco's Great Adventure 2: Dungeon of Mystery - yes, that's the full name). This is a sequel to the popular Super Famicom (Japanese Super Nintendo) RPG, Fushigino Dungeon: Toruneko no Daiboken.

Toruneko is a character from the popular Japanese RPG, Dragon Quest IV (known as Dragon Warrior IV in the US). In Dragon Quest IV, Toruneko (Taloon the army merchant in the US version) had aspirations of one day owning his own shop. Still pursuing these dreams and in this latest game, he starts out on a quest for some funds. This quest will lead him to explore dungeons to collect gold and arms.

Fushigi No Dungeon is considered a pseudo sequel to Square's Chocobo no Fushigina Dungeon. However, while the games share a similar dungeon name, they should be recognized as different titles. In Toruneko, the dungeon is automatically generated and will be different every time you play. Also, the process of saving your game is automatic, meaning you can't reset your game when you die. Chocobo was aimed at a younger audience so players could save whenever they wanted, making the game a lot easier to beat. Because of that, many die-hard Fushigi no Dungeon fans didn't consider the Chocobo series a legitimate sequel. The games' moniker indicates that the two games are supposed to be separate as well. Toruneko's name can be translated to "Dungeon of Mystery," while Chocobo's can be translated to "Mysterious Dungeon".

So far, Chun Soft has released three titles in the Fushigi no Dungeon series: Toruneko no Daiboken (Super Famicom), Furai no Shiren (Super Famicom/Game Boy).

Toruneko no Daiboken: Fushigi no Dungeon for PlayStation is scheduled for release this September in Japan.
