Diablo IV Goes Gold Already, Almost Guaranteeing an On-Time Launch-October 2024
Oct 26, 2024 11:26 AM

Diablo IV has been steadily building momentum since its open beta, but, of course, things can still go wrong late in a game’s development. So, is the June release really, truly locked in stone? Barring an unforeseen disaster, it seems like it is, as Blizzard has announced the game has already gone gold, meaning the game is essentially finished and in a shippable state. Here’s what Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson had to say about the game hitting this milestone…

“Going gold is a landmark milestone for the incredible Diablo IV team, who have all worked so hard crafting the next-generation installment of this iconic franchise. This is a concrete, meaningful step toward our June 6 launch. Whether players are veterans of the franchise or jumping in for the first time, we can’t wait for everyone to experience the full game: taking part in the incredible storytelling, experimenting with a variety of character classes and builds, and exploring what the endgame and the dark world of Sanctuary has to offer.”

Again, there’s still a faint chance Diablo IV gets delayed as catastrophic bugs are sometimes discovered at the last moment, but at this point, it seems very unlikely. Diablo IV is going gold earlier than most games, which bodes well for the state of the project.

“The wait was more than worth it, though. Right away, Diablo IV impresses thanks to an excellent presentation, both in terms of in-game visuals (mostly thanks to the fully dynamic lighting) and how the narrative unfolds via in-engine cutscenes. […] I've only played a few hours of Diablo IV, but I'm already looking forward to diving back in and possibly trying another class. It's way too early to pass final judgment, but so far, I'd say the king of the action RPG/hack and slash genre is back.”

Diablo IV launches on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5 on June 6. Who out there’s counting down the days until the game finally arrives?
