Warren Spector, who's known for games such as Deus Ex and the original System Shock, is joining OtherSide Entertainment to lead development on System Shock 3. He'll also continue to contribute to Underworld Ascendant.
OtherSide announced Spector's move in a press release, revealing that he's been a creative advisor to the company since its establishment. Spector is currently teaching at UT Austin, but he will join the developer full-time when the semester ends.
Spector says while he loved teaching, he couldn't say no to working on another System Shock game.
"When the opportunity to have a bigger role in bringing Underworld Ascendant to life, as well as playing in the System Shock universe once again, helping to bring these games to a 21st century audience, I just couldn't say no," says Spector. "Working on System Shock was one of the most fulfilling things I've done in my career and it's hard to describe how much I'm looking forward to sharing with players what SHODAN has been up to since the last game was released."
OtherSide team members have a history of working with Spector on the original System Shock, the Ultima Underworld games, and Thief: The Dark Project. Founder Paul Neurath is happy to have Spector join his studio.
"I'm delighted to have Warren stepping up into a director role at OtherSide and helping lead the charge with our innovative approach to gaming," says Paul. "I can think of no one better suited to take on this creative challenge. Warren has changed the industry before and will do so again."
System Shock 3 was confirmed last year after a website leaked a logo of the long-awaited sequel.
