Daytona USA rated for multiple platforms
Daytona USA rated for multiple platforms-January 2024
Jan 5, 2025 11:28 AM

According to a recent Classification Board of Australia listing, Sega could be gearing up for a rerelease of its smash hit arcade racer Daytona USA. The classifcation listing simply says the game was submitted for classification by Sega, was classified with a G rating on September 14, 2011, and will be multiplatform.

Daytona USA already made a comeback last year when it was released in arcades under the name Sega Racing Classic. Sega has shown a predisposition in recent years to mine its catalog for rereleases, with Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and more finding their way to downloadable storefronts. The publisher's arcade racing franchises have been no exception. The Dreamcast edition of Crazy Taxi debuted on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network last November. Earlier this year, Sega brought another of its vintage racing franchises to Microsoft and Sony's digital marketplaces with the launch of Sega Rally Online Arcade.

Daytona USA was first released in arcades in 1993 and was one of Sega's first-party titles at the 1995 launch of the Sega Saturn. In 2001, Sega also released a Dreamcast version of the title with added online play. More recently, the game Sega touts as "the most played arcade racer" was relaunched in 2010 under the name Sega Racing Classic.

As of press times, Sega had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
