CDPR on The Witcher 4: “Can’t Discuss Certain Things Even Though We Know Them Already”; Talks Cyberpunk 2077-September 2024

During CD Projekt Red’s most recent financial earnings call with investors, The Witcher 4 was mentioned alongside the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077.

Yesterday we already covered CDPR’s most recent financial earnings, but the company’s investor call revealed some interesting tidbits related to the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 and a new possible Witcher installment.

You can check out CD Projekt Red’s 2016 financial results conference webcast down below for yourself:

As highlighted by NEOGAF user “boskee”, the polish developer is currently working on a second unannounced AAA game together with Cyberpunk 2077. While Cyberpunk 2077 currently is in advanced development stage, the team still needs much time on it. Currently, more than 300 people are working on the game. The Polish developer also stated that they will be working with the Cyberpunk license for years to come.

The possibility of The Witcher 4 was also discussed during the conference when an investor pressed the subject. CD Projekt Red’s CEO, Adam Kicinski, was asked about the possible valuation of the company if they would announce The Witcher 4. Down below you’ll read Kicinski’s rather interesting answer:

“The Witcher was designed as a trilogy.  [A] trilogy cannot have a fourth part, however we like that world very much”, he said. “ We have invested 15 years of our lives and loads of money into it, and we will probably think about it at some point. But please consider us as rational people, we sometimes have weird ideas, but overall our thinking is very rational. We have full rights to The Witcher games. They are ours. We have invested enormous funds into promoting it, and it's a very strong brand. Answer your own question :)”

When the investor pressed the subject of shareholders and their interest in another Witcher game, Kicinski expressed that communication is troublesome, and that while some things might already be known, they can’t be publically discussed. “Sure, but there's also communication and that's a trouble, that we have talking to you guys”, the CEO said. “We have to be very careful with our words, because what we tell you is also heard by the gamers. Obviously plenty of you are gamers as well, but what we tell gamers is part of the marketing campaign, so we can't discuss certain things even though we know them already. We cannot reveal our full hand.”

Based on these cryptic answers, The Witcher 4 is almost inevitable. What are your thoughts on a new Witcher game and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077? Hit the comments below.
